MGA: Your Involvement
BILD Alberta is actively working on the City Charters file with BILD Calgary Region, CHBA – Edmonton Region and UDI Edmonton Region. Please fill out the province's Draft City Charters Regulation survey to have your say. Responses are due by October 10, 2017.
The MGA and City Charters remain the most impactful issues for our industry. While they have received much attention and Association resources, even more will be needed in the coming months. The summer of 2017 represents a critical juncture – the most important regulations associated with the MGA and the City Charter draft will be released in the near term.
Once we have the information from the province detailing exactly what changes are proposed, we will have a 60 day period to review, assess and respond to everything associated with this final phase. We will need to prepare submissions, conduct meetings, and get our message out in various forms.
Your Association is ready to do this through our professional staff, hired consultants, Board and other volunteers – but we need even more help. This is an effort that requires and is worth the attention of every member. The key things for you to do over the summer are:
• Be ready for the advocacy effort. We will ramp up to a full-scale push immediately after we understand the implications of the proposed changes, and will need you as members to be communicating our key messages to all the decision makers you can. Click here for an engagement guide.
• Stay informed and engaged in the meantime. You have received a large volume of information over the past number of years that will assist in this process, but if you need a refresher, please consult the website and don’t hesitate to contact Scott Fash or T.J. Keil with questions.
• Maintain relationships with the decision-makers in your community. These are vital to improving the end result of policy relating to the MGA and City Charters. Remain in contact with both provincial and municipal officials, making sure to share our key messages when you can. Share these with influencers from other industries as well – these can be among our best allies.
